We do the Work that others wont to save you money!

The Customer Call:

The customer owns a yoga studio in town, and called to report that she just had a shower installed by other contractors and it was leaking. The water would leak underneath the vinyl flooring and seep up between the cracks. A plumber had given her a hefty quote for a drain replacement... so she turned to us!

THe Troubleshooting Process

We went to the job site to see if we could identify the cause of the leak and where it was occurring.

To troubleshoot the issue we started simply:

  1. Inspect the unit for damage in the fiberglass basin and walls
  2. Inspect the drain for damage from both the top and bottom (which was available since it was in a commercial space where you could readily access the drain from underneath)
  3. Run the shower along the edges of the unit and follow the water.

Finding the issuE

We received approval from the customer to pull up some of the vinyl flooring so that we could find the leak without further subjecting the flooring to potential damage.  And we got approval to pull off a piece of baseboard near the edge of the unit where we suspected the water was leaking from.

Issue Identified

With the baseboard removed we successfully found the location of the leak.

The shower base was not properly level, and the walls were not properly joined to the base. So where the slope of their joining should directed the water into the shower base, it could not. And the water flowed behind the baseboard and under the floor.

Proposing a Solution & Aligning on work

The issues we found were that the shower was improperly installed, and the shower base was not level nor secured. So we showed the customer these issues, and recommended the following:

1) Removing the Unit (shower walls and base)  and the drywall covering the screws fastening it

2) Leveling the shower base

3) Reinstalling the same unit

4)Drywall and paint

She also had us remove more drywall so that a support board could go behind her towel bar holder to better secure it to the wall.

The video shows how severe the issue with the shower base was.

(If you are curious as to the socks, the customer requested we not wear shoes while in the studio and we happily obliged.)
